6th Grade - Emotion Self Portrait

Mrs. L asked me to come in and run a session with her 6th graders before they embark onto their new journey ... middle school.

Surely with such a big change coming up, new school, new teachers, new students ... there must to be a lot of emotions involved.
And et voila, we had found our session topic.

Emotion Self-portraits

I brought in my regular Power Point about Self Portrait, we talked about Van Gogh and Frieda Kahlo and then I added an Emotion Color Chart to talk about expressing your feelings with color.

I provided a few samples of how students used color to express themselves ...

... and then it was the kids turn to grab pencils, Sharpie and oil pastels to create a picture of themselves and their current feelings.

I asked them to sort of divide their face into two sides, one of how they feel about leaving Curtner and the other about how they are feeling about 7th Grade and all that comes with it.

All turned out AMAZINGLY great!

There is a lot of talent in this class and I am sad that I didn't have a chance to work more with these kiddos.

Take a look for yourself ...

Room 13
How do you feel today?

I'd like to pit out that this was the first time a teacher created a piece of art.
GREAT job Mrs. Long!!!

I am so glad I had the chance to visit this class and to do this project.
I can't wait to showcase some of these masterpieces in the Art Show next week.

GREAT WORK GUYS!!!

I had a super fun time hanging out with you!
I wish you a wonderful summer and ALL THE BEST for your new adventure!

Art Attack on Room 13 was VERY emotional!

I used a drawing tutorial from Art Projects for Kids and the Emotion Color Chart plus student examples from Deep Space Sparkle.

Room 9 puts things into PERSPECTIVE

Mrs. G ran this session with her kiddos and when I saw the results I had to snap some photos of them and post them here.
These perspective drawings are wonderful and the kids did a great job adding their own flair to their creations.

The kids sketched their scenes, traced with black marker (Sharpie) and then colored the picture with liquid water color.

Some kids chose the center to be a street, some chose it to be a river and each and every picture has it's own personality.

GREAT job, as always.

You guys rock the art world big time and I can't wait to see what 3rd Grade has in store for you.
Hopefully I can come and see you one more time before you graduate.

Art Attack on Room 9 is always in progress!

This too is a Deep Space Sparkle inspired lesson.
